Call for Papers

We are pleased to announce the 1st International Conference on Heutagogy and Its Role in Teacher Education, which will bring together leading scholars, researchers, and practitioners to critically examine heutagogy as a theoretical and practical framework in teacher preparation and classroom practice.

Heutagogy concerns the development of learner agency, learner-managed learning, and self-determined learning, and is strongly related to self-directed and self-regulated learning- extending beyond traditional pedagogy and andragogy by emphasizing learner autonomy, capacity-building, and the development of reflective, adaptable professionals. These competencies are becoming increasingly important, particularly in a rapidly changing reality shaped by the integration of AI tools, uncertainty, and complexity, and ongoing social and educational transformations.

Within the specific context of teacher education, often viewed as a lighthouse for educational and pedagogical socialization, heutagogical approaches are gaining attention for their potential and ability to foster teacher and student agency, innovation, creativity, motivation, and lifelong learning among teacher educators, student teachers, and mentors.

Importantly, the conference seeks to serve as a dynamic international platform for learning, exchange, and collaboration. By bringing together participants from diverse cultural and educational contexts, it aims to promote cross-national dialogue, share best practices, and build and strengthen global research networks dedicated to advancing heutagogical theory and practice in teacher education and beyond.

Submission Guidelines

We welcome presentations in the following formats:
Individual papers, Sessions, Symposia, and Posters

In addition, we invite submissions in the following formats:
Workshops, Pop-up, and Pecha Kucha: Researchers and practitioners are encouraged to propose workshops that provide participants with opportunities to experience heutagogy in practice. We also invite participants to engage in pop-up sessions to exchange ideas, discuss real-world challenges, and explore potential solutions.

Abstract Format: All submissions, regardless of presentation format (e.g., oral presentation, online presentation, session, workshop), must be submitted as a Word or PDF file with a maximum length of 350 words (including references). Abstracts must include the submission title, presentation format, full names of all authors, institutional affiliation(s), the corresponding author’s email address, and 3 to 5 keywords.

Review Processing: All submitted abstracts will undergo a double-blind peer-review process.

Full papers: Authors of accepted abstracts may be invited to submit full manuscripts for consideration for inclusion in an edited volume of the conference proceedings or, optionally, as a chapter in an edited book.
